The department of commerce was started in the year 1969 and paves ways for attainment of degree in both UG &PG and Research Program. It is the best Department among the College of Periyar University in promoting quality and value based education. the under graduate program in commerce was in full swing right from the year 1969 -70 onwards and later it is promoted as post graduate and research department and also offers research fellowship to the research scholar. The department has accomplished many trival research projects. This is an added feather to its crown. The faculty members of the department are highly qualified with doctoral degree and with guiding expertise. The department regularly conducts addon course like insurance and export and import management throughout the year .industrial visits are arranged for the final year UG & PG learners .as a research department more than 50 scholars have in awarded doctorate degree and 15 Scholars are pursuing their research Activities. In addition to that more than 100 scholars have in awarded M.Phil degree.

o To develop conceptual, technical and practical skills in the field of industry, commerce, management and accounting.

o To develop capability in each students to identify business opportunities, analyse their risk-return possibilities and support business development in socially desirable avenues with strong moral commitment.
