Department of Botany

The Department of Botany, established in 1972 by the Kandaswami Kandar Educational Trust, boasts a rich history. Upgraded to offer postgraduate courses in 1981, it has since expanded its programs to include M.Phil (since 1983) and Ph.D. (since 2010) degrees. As one of the oldest and most reputed departments under Periyar University's affiliated colleges, we take pride in our extensive knowledge and dedicated faculty. Our highly motivated team of well-qualified and subject-specialized academic staff provides students with an exceptional learning experience. We are committed to fostering a love for botany in our students. Through well-equipped, spacious classrooms and laboratories, we encourage them to develop a keen sense of observation and the ability to analyze diverse phenomena using appropriate methods of illustration. Our lectures and practical sessions go beyond mere content delivery. We strive to expose students to the fascinating world of plant adaptations, survival strategies, and growth processes.

AIM :

• To equip students from rural backgrounds with a high-quality education in plant sciences, fostering awareness of sustainability and biodiversity conservation.

 
 

Objective :

• We do impart knowledge on various aspects in plant biology

We train students with practical approaches in the field of basic and advanced botany

We produce students with independent and critical thinking with scientific temper in the field of botany.

We deliver knowledge on latest developments in Plant sciences with lecture courses, lab courses and field visits

We aid individuals to develop their intellectual, professional and personal growth and empower them with a suitable job/entrepreneur/researcher in the field of botany
